FRS CR consists of
General Directorate of Fire Rescue Service, which is a part of the Ministry of Interior, 14 Regional Fire Rescue Services and a special fire protection school called
Fire Service College in Frydek-Mistek.
Education of future firefighters and contemporary staff of Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic (FRS CR) is great importance. The complex program of specialized education of fire protection started in the sixties of the last century.
Fire Service College (in Frydek-Mistek) of the Ministry of Interior was the first such an establishment.
Fire Service College is the only special fire protection school in the Czech Republic focused on educating students from the age of 15 to 18.
These students finish their four-year curriculum with school leaving examination
and after that they can continue studying at University or start to work
in the field of fire prevention and fire protection at any of FRSs CR.
Tuition is carried out on daily basis.
The school also provides further education for firefighters. This study is aimed to
preparing experts for the field of crisis management and fire prevention.
This type of tuition is carried out on course basis.
Besides Fire Service College in Frydek-Mistek, education of firefighters
in the Czech Republic is also provided by several other educational
Institutions such as:
- Vocational Training Centres
- Institute of Population Protection, www.ioolb.cz
- Technical University, Ostrava, www.fbi.vsb.cz
Vocational training centres are situated in cities Brno, Frydek-Mistek, Borovany and Chomutov. These facilities provide both theoretical and practical education in specialized courses. Courses are determined for firefighters of regional FRSs (professionals), company firefighters and for members of municipal and company voluntary firefighter units. They are a part of General Directorate of FRS.
Institute of Population Protection ensures education, scientific research in areas of civil emergency planning, emergency management and population protection. Education is carried out on course basis. There are also provided international workshops and conferences co-organized by UN, NATO and EU. The institute is also a part of General Directorate of FRS.
Technical University, Ostrava enables to acquire university degree of education. The main educational program is on Faculty of Safety Engineering, Fire Protection and Industrial Safety branch. The university has bachelor, graduate and master degrees of study and it is ruled by the Ministry of Education.
